The UT Extension in Dekalb Co will present a new course to help with canning foods safely. "Canning College: Preserving Foods Safely" is a 7 hour course taught by Extension Agent April Martin. Topics include: Preserving Jams & Jellies, Pickling, Using a Waterbath Canner and Using a Pressure Canner. The class will be held at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Smithville. There is a $35 registration fee to cover the cost of supplies and produce. for more information call the UT Extension office at 597-4945. Registration is due by June 26th.

Engine 63 Midway Unit, Dekalb Co. Fire Dept. will be serving a ham breakfast at the Midway Community Center in Smithville

Rides on the Midway will be provided by the Family Attractions Amusement Company. Unlimited rides will be available each night for $16.00. Admission to the fair is $3.00 per person. Children age four and younger will be admitted free! Gates open at 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Parking is Free! RULES ARE AVAILABLE. All Amateur Musicians, Singers, Dancers and Entertainers Invited. Each Participant in Each Event Must Pay a Fee of $8.00 Per Person. Registration for all contestants will be held next to the stage. No advance registration required for singers, musicians, dancers and entertainers.

Rockin' Senior Olympics will include fun events such as a walking test, a noodle toss and water bottle throwing. The event is a chance for older adults in the community to come and show off their skills! A free picnic potluck lunch will follow and raffle prizes will be available to attendees. The event is sponsored by the Dekalb Co Senior Center and the Healthways SilverSneakers Fitness Program.

Barb-B-Que dinner and Gospel Singing. Dinner begins at 5 pm and singing begins at 7 pm. Performances by: Right On Time, The Page Family, Holy Crossin', David Turner, The Faith Singers, Barbara Green and Living Water. Tickets are available at any Liberty State Bank Office. All proceeds go the the American Cancer Society.

Walk Across TN is an 8 week program where teams of eight compete to see which team can log the most miles. The program is designed to promote activity to improve and maintain your health.
